To blog or not to blog? That is the question. Blog is short for "web log" as I'm sure everybody knows by now. Generally I think most blogging is Internet clutter, pure and simple. A lot of it is exhibitionist, pretentious or downright lame. If one is writing to provide useful information, I think it's better to write topical essays, like what I did in my Letters from Japan. But that takes some effort so for now I'm going to try my hand at blogging.
For the blogger, anyway, I think blogging can be useful. It's a place to jot down thoughts and information. And it can be historical. When I have kept a paper journal in the past, I have enjoyed rereading it years later. But I never keep those journals up. We'll see how this one goes.
I think that by organizing entries by topic as well as chronologically it can be made more useful for the Internet community at large. And no, this is not an April Fool's joke. :-) |
